Oscar 🦧 and Mabel 🐒 Summer Splashing Fun!
From the touch of the sand to the taste of salty air, each sensory experience contributes to your Munchkin’s understanding of the world around them, and this is the story of the beach adventures Oscar and Mabel did this Summer holiday whilst waiting for the new term to begin - they have been super busy and hope you have been too! 🦧🐒👩🏼
1. Sun Safety First
Before we dive into the excitement, we made sure we were protected from the sun's rays and wore lots of child-safe sunscreen, wore our widest-brimmed hats and our best sunglasses. We stayed in the shade during the hottest times too! ☀️🌊⛱️🏖️🕶️
2. Sandcastles and Sandy Toes
Building sandcastles 🏰 is a super beach game that we adore. We took our buckets 🪣 and spades and had super fun on the beach with the sand. We experimented with different shapes and designs and got ourselves really messy! 🦧🐒
3. Gentle Waves and Tide Pools 🦐🌊⛱️
We loved the magic of the sea and explored the gentle waves and magical tide pools, we dipped our toes in these with Rachel 👩🏼 and learnt about the movement of water.
It was amazing what we found in the tide pools – we discovered tiny sea creatures and got to watch them swim about and learn about them as Rachel 👩🏼 showed us all the different creatures from snails 🐌, crabs 🦀🐚, shrimps 🦐 and sand-worms 🪱.
4. Seashell Treasures 🐚🦐
We caught small treasures on the Beaches in our buckets, lots of seashells 🐚 just waiting to be discovered.
Don’t tell Oscar 🦧 but Mabel 🐒 found the prettiest seashells! 🐚
This activity developed Oscar’s and Mabel’s observation and motor-skills as they played near the rocks with Rachel 👩🏼.
5. Beach Picnic Delights
We packed our picnic basket 🧺 with child-friendly snacks and drinks 🥪🍿🍩🍌🍌 (and bananas especially for Mabel 🐒, as they are her favourite!).
And on our beach blanket we had a magical feast 🍊🍎 and made up super fun stories about fish 🐠🐡 and sandcastles.
6. Sand and Water Play
We loved our sand and water play. We set up a simple play area with water containers, scoops, and funnels and experimented with pouring and mixing water and sand.
Rachel 👩🏼 says this encouraged our sensory exploration and fine motor-skills.
7. Flying Kites
When it was breezy we flew our kites 🪁🪁
We chose a lightweight, easy-to-control kite made our kites dance and fly in the sky 😁🦧🐒.
8. Napping Under Beach Umbrellas
Our comfy beach umbrella ⛱️ and tent ⛺️ were perfect hideaways for taking cosy naps. The sound of the gentle waves and the feel of the warm sand made a prefect nap-time.
Oscar 🦧 overslept 💤💤
Remember to adjust the activities to suit your Munchkin’s age, interests and abilities and always supervise your Munchkins around water and rocks. Always ensure the safety of materials used during these activities.
